No rock star has ever risen to fame by following a path free of challenges. The road to rock is paved with disappointments, setbacks, tragedies, and days where you'd just rather curl up in the fetal position and hide in your closet underneath your studded leather pants.
There are many "chords" or concepts involved in being a rock star that I share in my book, Opportunity Rocks, and my keynote experience. Some of these include: Pushing past fear to seize opportunities, Embracing your vision and committing to it, Developing a strong, Positive energy, and Surrounding yourself with the right people and the right relationships.
A recent Unstuck Happiness Conference reminded me of just how universal these chords are. Speakers shared stories of the experiences that threatened to break them, and the tools they used to overcome them. While you may never have lost a child, been homeless, lost your arms and legs to a flesh eating bacteria, or been molested as a child - you can still transform your life and your business by learning the strategies that helped get these speakers "unstuck". Here are a few rock star success takeaways you can use to rock your life.
Sheryl Green, a resiliency expert talked about the fear she had to face and overcome in order to leave her husband after he was arrested for soliciting a minor online. She experienced a deep depression during this time, but overcame it by facing her fears and living by the motto "Never Miss an Opportunity". She uses a technique called The Regret Hangover - not to be confused with the tequila hangover (does anyone have an aspirin?), focusing more on how she will feel if she doesn't take action, rather than how afraid she is to take action. We all experience fear and doubt, but if you want to make it on stage and take the business world by storm, you'll have to push past that fear.
When Judi Moreo decided to start her own business, Universal Models and Finishing School, she threw her life savings into it. With just $2000 to invest, and an economic downturn right around the corner, Judi learned just how essential it was to commit 100% to her vision. The road was rough, but through her determination, she built an empire and has dedicated her life to inspiring others to achieve their dreams. Are you 100% committed to your business? Are you shedding blood, sweat, and tears to make your dreams a reality?
Eddie Garcia loves to ask, "Can I give you hand?". Not because he's helpful (though he is). It's because a few years ago, Eddie contracted a flesh eating bacteria. Doctors didn't think he would survive... but Eddie was strong. He may have lost his hands and feet, but he didn't lose his amazing spirit. Eddie shares his positive energy and his message of perseverance with the youth softball and basketball teams that he coaches. When you face a setback at home or at work, do you allow it to change your attitude or do you find a way to stay positive and inspire your team?
Conference founder, John Polish's only daughter was born with a genetic disorder and only lived a few days, but her impact on John and the world can't be ignored. John allowed himself to be a victim of his circumstances, but the experience inspired him to help himself and others get unstuck. In order to do that, he needed a partner. He met Dale Krause (Mr. Bucket List), a man dealing with colon cancer and dancing his way through chemo. Together, they founded the conference and connected with the other inspiring speakers who share their stories to help others overcome their circumstances.
All of these speakers changed their lives and became rock stars because they took action. Are you ready to learn why Opportunity Rocks?
